Colon has become known as the Magic Capital of the World.

Now there’s a chance it could get even more famous if there could be a Walk of Fame to honor magicians.
Rick Fisher, chairman of the Colon Downtown Development Authority, shared the idea of a “Magic Walk of Fame” Tuesday with the Village Council. He said it would be like a touch of Hollywood in downtown Colon.“Imagine what it could mean to our village if David Copperfield had a star in our downtown Walk of Fame,” Fisher said Tuesday. “All I’m asking today is your permission to explore the idea and find out what it might cost.”

The idea intrigued council members, who unanimously told Fisher to go ahead and pursue it.
Fisher, a magician who owns FAB Magic, told the Journal it was Annette Thornton who came up with the idea for a Walk of Fame.Annette and her husband, Carl, own Five Star Pizza in Colon.

“I’ve seen the Walk of Fame in Hollywood and the one in Lansing,” she said. “I think this would be so great if we could get something started this year. This year is the 75th anniversary of the Abbott Magic Get-Together. We’d like to get the word out to the magicians.”

The Michigan Walk of Fame is located in Lansing's downtown retail corridor at Washington Square, just east of the state Capitol building. It was styled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame to honor Michigan residents, past or present, who have made significant contributions to the state or nation. The first inductees were honored  during Michigan Week in 2006.

Fisher said he is busy doing his research on the idea.
“So far, it’s not as bad as I thought it would be,” he said about the cost. “Markers can cost $750 or $1150 and then there’s the cost of placing them in the sidewalk.”Fisher said he has found a company in Lansing that makes the stars.Fisher said a magicians’ Walk of Fame could be a boost for tourism in Colon.“It’s a lifetime thing to have one,” he said.
